A Nod to Women’s History

Our guru’s stood up for gender equality long before it ever became something we knew as women we deserved and started fighting for.

Arvinder Groomer, the author of the book A Kaur’s Story: A Compilation of Immigrant Women Stories, speaks to this truth, and how we must make it a reality in our communities. We often say that we believe in gender equality, but how often do we practice it daily? She hopes her readers will help start a dialogue on gender roles, gender equality, and a realization that our prayers and beliefs must match our practical real life.

The book is written in four parts, and addresses the natural journey most women take when immigrating to another country. Arvinder, who is herself an immigrant, speaks openly about her own journey, and the realization of addressing gender equality when her son got married and wanted to treat his wife with the utmost respect, something that still does not occur often enough in our society.

Arvinder says, “you will love this book if you believe in the spirit of equality and justice, for all.” A Kaur’s Story “speaks to both, men and women, who grapple with initiating change and want to challenge the stereotypes in a new way.”  She hopes that readers will understand that women need to thrive, and need to be seen for who they are, and are allowed to be themselves.

The author has already started to observe some changes with the next generation, who question blind adaptation of some of our customs. With additional dialogue, there is the real possibility of major changes in our community. If you are interested in being part of the change, please consider ordering this book when it comes out later this year.
